Spring is coming. And Mexico’s pueblos mágicos (magical towns in English) know it. They know it because their flowers begin blooming, the sun’s rays color everything yellow, and good vibes sprout from everywhere. Oh, yeah, and tourists start swarming in.
In order to make the best out of this change of season, where winter removes its cold embrace to cover us with a warm and sunny blanket, there’s no better escape than one of the fantastic pueblos mágicos in our country.
We leave here a list of 11 Pueblos Mágicos to visit this beautiful spring:
1. Taxco

Taxco is a colonial mining town, which paints itself in red-thatched roofs and silver jewelry. Its slanted cobblestone streets, narrow alleys and whitewashed walls are the perfect setting for a pedestrian stroll up to its cathedral. And if you get bored after a while, there are caves and waterfalls nearby that you can visit on a day trip.
2. San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel will make you fall in love. It will conquer your heart. Starting with its cathedral, similar to any other religious giant in Europe, and all the way to its exquisite gastronomy, San Miguel de Allende is perfect for any kind of trip, whether its for resting, food, party, historic or all of the above.

3. Todos Santos
Located in Baja California Sur, this pueblo mágico is one of a kind. It was this very same place that swooned Eagles, the famous band, and became the inspiration behind their reknowned song, Hotel California, named after a hotel located inside the town.
4. Guanajuato

The romantic town of a thousand colors. Between its lookout point, the Monumento al Pípila, the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, its fearsome mummies, and kissing alleys, this colonial pueblo mágico is part of UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. And we’re sure you won’t want to leave it out of your travel bucket list.
5. Tulum

Although many won’t believe it, Tulum is also amongst Mexico’s pueblos mágicos. Located on a cliff with an unsurpassable view of the Caribbean’s turquoise waves and decorated by a unique archaeological site, Tulum is a place of dreams, rest and recovery.
6. Tepoztlán
From climbing to the top of the Tepozteco and enjoying a refreshing lime-based drink with a view of the entire town, to going to pop-up salesmen and buying trinkets, Tepoztlan is a lovely destination colored in ochre, highlighted in red and decorated with cobblestoned streets.
It’s no wonder it’s one of the 10 weekend trips you need to take this year with your better half.
7. Huasca de Ocampo

In spite of it looking worthy of any British landscape, Huasca de Ocampo is located in Hidalgo. Being the state’s first pueblo mágico, you have to stroll through its lovely quaint streets and admire the detailes in the Santa María and San Miguel Regla ex-haciendas, whilst you get lost in the mystique of the Basaltic Prisms, created millions of years ago thanks to the hardening of liquid lava.
8. San Cristóbal de las Casas

In a valley surrounded by Chiapas’s mountains, you’ll find San Cristóbal de las Casas, one of the best preserved colonial cities in the country. The crown jewel of the town is its cathedral, painted in bright yellow and red, while all around the city you’ll find wonders like the Sumidero Canyon, the Agua Azul waterfalls and Palenque, an archaeological site that’s been a World Heritage Site since 1987.
9. Tequila

There’s nothing that screams Mexican like tequila. And there’s no other place to drink it other than Tequila, in Jalisco. It’s known that if it isn’t from here, it isn’t real tequila. So it isn’t surprising that this pueblo mágico is also a World Heritage Site, pronounced so since 2006. We recommend a trip to the agave fields, followed by a specialized tour where you’ll have tequila tastings. Salud!
10. Papantla

This pueblo mágico is located in the northern part of the state of Veracruz. And it has a lot to offer. Its name means the city of the noisy birds, and is known throughout the world thanks to its flying men ritual, which has been around for a millenium. From the archaeological site called El Tajín to a peculiar fame regarding vanilla, this place will not let you get bored.
11. Cuatro Ciénagas

This particular pueblo mágico is surrounded by natural beauty. It’s located in Coahuila, and seems to have been made to sway with its traditions and colonial structures. In the middle of this desert region you’ll find Cuatro Ciénagas, a real oasis. Its protected area is located about 8 km from the centre of the town, and it will astound you with 85 acres of mountains and over 400 natural pools with crystal-clear water. You’ll also find the Dunas de Yeso, white sand dunes that are supposedly the remnants of a long evaporated sea that used to cross the state.
Spring is a time for celebrating. And Mexico is just the place to do it. Which is why its pueblos mágicos are so much more than what you expected, ranging from crystalline and peaceful natural ponds to colonial strolls filled with fantastic tequila.
