14 ideas to celebrate this Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air. Or at least, in every date this Valentine’s Day.

And that’s because February 14th, aside from being an excuse to sell all kinds of commercial products, is an occasion for celebrating that we have others whom we love.

(And if you don’t believe us, check out our article on why you should be thankful EVERYDAY, and not just on Thanksgiving)

This is why here’s a list of 14 different ways in which you can celebrate this Valentine’s Day in Mexico City:

1. Have a picnic in the park

Any park is ideal for this, but our favorite one is Chapultepec, since it’s so big you probably won’t run into other people. Still, we recommend you check out our article on Parque México, a peaceful jewel inside the chaos that is Mexico City.

You just need a a couple of sandwiches, some dessert (chocolate, please!) and something to drink. And don’t forget to bring a blanket so you can share it when the temperature begins to drop. The best part is that this is pocket-friendly, since you’ll handle the dinner’s budget.

2. Go out to dinner

For dinner, we recommend going somewhere with exquisite food and a romantic cuddling ambiance, like La Gloutonnerie, a French restaurant in Polanco, or  Mora Blanca,  located inside a historical and luxurious house in the same area.

3. Toast (with beer)

If you’re both fans of malt mixed with water, then what would be better than going to a pub to celebrate just how beautiful life is? Spots like  La Graciela or Fiebre de Malta are waiting for you with enormous pints of craft beer.

4. Celebrating “a la mexicana”

Mexicans know how to party. And there’s nothing like love to make us want to do precisely that. We recommend Azul Histórico or dinner on the terrace of the  Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, which has incredible views of the center of the city.

And also, there’s nothing like not being in love to also make you want to go out. For this, we recommend going to Plaza Garibaldi or to a cantina in Coyoacan’s centre.

5. Toast (with wine)

If you both happen to be grape lovers (and who isn’t?), then the best wine bars in Mexico City include Vinícola Urbana, located on Presidente Mazaryk Avenue, and the Central de Vinos in the Del Carmen neighbourhood.

6. Going to the movies

But of course, not just any movie. Why waste a perfectly romantic outing by going to the same old movie theater? Instead, head down to the Autocinema Coyote for a fantastically romantic night.

7. Toast (with mezcal)

Agave lovers, unite! La Clandestina or Corazón Oaxaqueño are the answer to your prayers. Both of them are in La Condesa neighborhood, and both of them are incredible. Cheers!

8. Dancing

And no, we don’t mean in your living room. There’s nothing like moving those hips to the rhythm of salsa to get the fire going. So head down to  Mama Rumba or Don Quintín if you like to dance until dawn.

9. Living out thrills on roller coasters

When both of you are adventure seekers, then there’s no reason why your date can’t take place on top of a roller coaster, right? Get your Six Flags tickets here.

10. Netflix & Chill

Kind of self-explanatory. But when both of you prefer a quiet night in, cuddled on a couch, then Netflix and a romantic candlelit dinner are the perfect choice. Also, it’s super cheap.

Just don’t forget to bring dessert 😉

11. Travel

There are few things more romantic than traveling as a couple. Which is why we created this list of the 10 short trips you have to take with your better half this year.

12. Party with friends

Remember that Valentine’s Day is the day to celebrate both love and FRIENDSHIP. So, bros before hoes and sisters before misters. Organize something (with or without +1) and invite  your best friends over. Because even if it is February 14th you should never have to find an excuse to see one another and *partay*.

13. An evening out in a terrace

Terraces know what they’re doing when it comes to romance. And they’re all wonderful for a lovely evening out. We recommend Balmori Rooftop Bar (check out our review here!) or Ivoire, located in Polanco.

14. Toast (with champagne)

Finally, if both of you can’t get enough of that bubbly goodness that’s only found in the finest of sparkling wines, La Xampa could be your match made in heaven.

No matter what you choose to do, remember that the most important part of this day is that it’s only one more day of the year. One more day in which you have one another, in which you happen to be alive, in which you wake up and choose to see and celebrate each other.

And, well, chocolate. That’s also pretty important.

Keep rolling till you find something you love…
