Bacalar is one of those places that you can honestly call “heaven on Earth”. And the biggest reason for that are the seven hues of beautiful blue that reflect across its waters.

It’s truly one of the greatest lagoons you’ll ever see.

After thinking it about it for a while, we had the blessing to travel to Bacalar. You might have seen our videos when we were there, and if not you should take a look 🙂 !

The adventure started as most of trips do, by looking for the best option for a hotel and a flight.

We were flying in from Mexico City; which made it a little easier to book a flight. After a few minutes we found the perfect option, costing only two thousand pesos (MXN) per person, a little less than 100 USD for the whole round trip. And guess what! This flight leaves daily from Mexico City to Chetumal.

After arriving to Chetumal, we took a taxi to Bacalar, which took only thirty minutes and under 10 USD.

So we had our flight booked for November, now all we needed to do was find a nice hotel near the beautiful lagoon of Bacalar. Or even better, right in front of it. It’s a little bit hard to find cheap places on the internet because this place is commonly used as a honeymoon venue, and most of the webpages of Bacalar hotels are kind of expensive.

But that is also the adventure of travel, you’ve got to do your homework to make the best out of your budget.

We finally made a reservation in a hostel called “Casa Tortuga”.

And it was an amazing place!

You have everything you need inside it. With a dock where you can take a quick dip to the blue lagoon and enjoy the sweet, fresh water any time you want, a garden surrounding the construction and even a camping site. There’s a lounge and hammocks for reading, and a bar in the shape of a boat.

We booked a room for about 35 USD per night,  which turned out to be an enormous room even for a couple!

And one of the best parts is that the breakfast is included.

Bacalar is truly a breathtaking place!

There is a lot to do, with great landscapes, beautiful water, amazing people… and it’s also very cheap!
