There are certain songs that stick with you. And certain bands that manage to bond in a special way with your heart. And there is music that is just simply awesome. Boombox has all three.
It’s a rock and electronic duo formed in 2004 by Russ Randolph and Zion Godchaux. Both had backgrounds in the DJ area, which led to the start of amazing mixes of psychedelic rock, funk, soul, R&B, and house, generating a unique type of music.
Originated in Alabama, they released their first album in 2005, with the results being “…nearly impossible not to dance to” (Examiner.com). After their initial success, three more albums were released under the guidance of Heart of Gold Records, generating equally amazing reviews and comments.
This great band had been around the globe with live performances and festivals, their first appearance outside of the U.S. being in New Zealand in 2012. They have participated in IMPULSE Music & Art Festival, The Echo Project, Rothbury Music Festival, The Oregon Country Fair and many more.
Zion, a singer-songwriter, performs as guitar and lead vocals in Boombox. The San Francisco local started out in music at the tender age of two, with a great talent for drums. Zion claims his main influences to be A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan. He then later started performing as a DJ in San Francisco.
Randolph, also a drummer, was exposed to R&B genre, which veered him towards a career in the University Of North Alabama´s School Of Commercial Music. After finishing, he worked as an engineer, a music producer and finally a DJ.
They both met when Zion’s parents wanted the helped of an engineer for some of their songs. Randolph and Zion immediately connected as they started creating music together.
