Let it never be said that Earth has nothing to surprise us with. We have magical snow-capped volcanoes and breathtaking crystalline waterfalls, but sometimes beauty relies on what we humans make of the place we call home.

So we decided to travel to one of the most colorful places on Earth, made so entirely by human hands.

Burano, an island located in the Venetian Lagoon, is known throughtout the world because of its brightly colored homes.

It’s located a mere 7 kilometers from Venice itself, a short trip made possible by the Italian vaporetti. They’re like buses, but in the water.

 

It’s a place filled with cheer and happiness, all the colors creating a wonderful collage.

 

Truly, a feast for the eyes.

It’s made up of five islands, all united and connected by wonderful and quaint little bridges.

According to the legend, the first to paint their houses with such bright and lovely colors where the fishermen, in order to recognize their house when they came back from work.

And today, any inhabitant of the flashy city must follow a specific system from the golden age in order to paint their home. They need to send an official request to the government, who then replies with the colors that may be used to brighten the facade.

Another beautiful – but perhaps not as colorful – part of the city is its lacemaking. Burano is reknowned for its beautiful lacework, which can be bought all over the island.

It’s a beautiful place to take a stroll in, reel in breathtaking pictures, and bask in the greatness of the simple contrast of colors.

The vibrancy of the houses is more than enough to make anyone happy.

Combine it with the hued energy of the homes that make up the landscape and you’ve got a winning combination.
