Everyone craves a not-so-healthy snack from time to time. But do you more often than not find that you crave unhealthy things?
The answer to eating healthy can be set by default. That’s right.
One of the key tips for you to start eating healthier is to set up your kitchen according to your lifestyle. Automatic healthier eating, kaching.
Here is the “Let-Your-Kitchen-Do-the-Work-For-You” way to improve your eating, where you can transform yourself into a standard healthy eater by default.
1. Clean your counter.
Having a dirty counter, according to the Environment & Behavior Journal, means you will eat A LOT MORE! It translates to you immediately be craving unhealthy snacks because it will mean avoiding washing more dishes and dirtying everything up even more.
First of all make yourself the habit of do the dishes right after you use them so they don´t piled up. We also need to get over the bad thinking “everybody does it, why not me” specially if you live with “roomies”.
2. Except fruit! Always have a fruit bowl on your counter.
The only thing you will need to have in your counter is a basket of fruits! Studies have found that people that kept fruit on their counters will achieve a healthier life than those who don’t.
If you have easier access to something then it will be more likely that you will reach out and eat it. So it will be better to reach out for a fruit that some chips right!?
3. Don’t forget water! Keep a carboy/dispenser where it will catch your eye!
Something that you should already know, everyone needs to drink more water! A visual reminder is all you need sometimes.
It’s better to have a water cooler, a water bottle or something with water outside the fridge and on the counter or a place where you will see it. This will help remind you to take a gulp. The thing is, make your kitchen lazy-proof, put some glasses right by the carboy.
4. And keep everything else — sweets, cereals, etc. — in a junk-food drawer or cabinet.
The best way to avoid junk food is by simply not buying it, but if you have some remember to store all of it in one drawer – preferably in the least reachable drawer.
You will wonder “Why not keep everything in one place?” Now if you are looking for some healthy snack and suddenly you find some cookies where the tuna is, best guess is you will go for the cookies.
5. Now for your fridge, whole food should be at the front, and all the processed food should be as unreachable as possible.
Cut down the processed foods, put them in the back so that you will not see them and R.I.P. your diet.
6. Size “does” matter, buy smaller plates!
If you eat from a smaller plate, you will be able to manage your portions even better. Portions of food look smaller in huge plates, even if it’s a lot! This is called “Deloboeuf Ilusion” don´t fall for it.
So this is how you can eat healthier without even trying or worrying. Give it a try and tell us if it works for you!
Happy munching!
