More often than not, music plays an important part of our lives. And in some cases, it changes us for good.
This is exactly what happened to Mau Méndez, A.K.A. Jetinsky: a musician, producer and engineer.
His father used to play guitar and piano, and always wanted to become a musician but never did. This pushed Mau’s interest towards the music scenario even more. He started playing after his sister got a guitar and some lessons, and his love for music only grew.
“Music has proven to be loyal in every single situation. Love, heartbreaks, loneliness, happiness… It’s always there for you.”
“So I’ve been dedicating my life to it.”
He’s played in a couple of bands, the first one started in junior high school. Then Merbau was born. With slight changes in drummers and a great improvement of everyone’s natural abilities, playing in several venues in Cuernavaca, Mexico City and Puebla.
Afterwards he decided to start his own project: called Mau Méndez/Jetinsky.
Jetinsky was a new way to share songs that hadn’t been incorporated in other projects or productions, with special qualities that distinguish it from other proposals in the Mexican scene.
With unique and particular influences such as John Mayer, Kings Of Leon, Snarky Puppy, and Jimi Hendrix, Jetinsky’s proposal is to make your body ask for more, to “play” with your feelings.
He’s different from other musicians in the way that he tries to create complex pop music, concentrating on the guitar and the music arrangements. He doesn’t hide from his influences, but rather tries to make his own and make people feel something different.
“My greatest achievement where music is concerned was actually embracing it and deciding I wanted to make a living out of it.”
In any case, achievements are always happening. That the kindness music brings.
As an audio engineer, he’s realized that sometimes achievements are also quantifiable. He’s had the opportunity to be part of some cool or interesting recording sessions, working with producers like Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor), Thomas Juth (Jamie Cullum, Elton John, KT Tunstall), The Swaggernautz (CD9, Anahí, Marc Anthony), Mario Contreras (Bustamante, Dulce María, Belinda), and more.
To all the music lovers, his message is patience.
“Don’t give up. Be loyal and kind to music, because music is noble and if it’s done with passion and love it kind pay very, very, very well”

Definitely, Mau Méndez/Jetinsky an artist and producer to keep an eye on.
Keep rolling ‘til you find something you love…
