Vikings lovers! Besides the whole trama and epic fights in every Vikings episode, you can’t deny the marvelous sceneries where the filmed this show.

You might think all the episodes are filmed in Scandinavian lands. Well… not precisely. It’s closer than you think. Hint: leprechauns!

This is the place where you will see all the beautiful landscapes shown in the famous The History Channel’s series.

Out of all the things do to in Ireland, like spending a night in a castle or watching the Cliff Diving Championship, these are the places you absolutely HAVE to go to in order to relive any of Ragnar Lothbrok’s epic travels.

 

Lough Dan

This amazing lake is only 35 minutes away by car from Dublin. Surrounded by the Wicklow Mountains, this area belongs to (you will not guess who), the Guinness family! Yep, the beer creators! But don’t be disappointed… only the lake is private. There are some roads around the lake that will provide you with amazing views and landscapes that are clearly Instagram-worthy.

You will quickly remember this place from the series as this is where they recreate the Viking port.

 

Wicklow Way

 

After watching a sunrise at Lough Dan, you must go to this 130km long trail, which crosses the Wicklow Mountains all the way to South Dublin. This entire trail was used to record some amazing shots of the Vikings fights.

Only there’s no fighting here – outdoor sports only, including hiking, mountain biking and cross running. Hey, maybe if you’re lucky enough you might end up sword fighting alongside Ragnar!

 

Powerscourt Waterfall

This is the place where Ragnar finds his new wife. You will never forget this place, not only because it will remind you of a great plot twist in the show, but because is the highest waterfall in Ireland. With a modest 121 meters of height, this place has been used in many occasions for different series and other movies like The Count of Monte Cristo.

In conclusion, whenever you have a chance to travel, think about Ireland.

This place will take you to a Vikings set in no time, and you’ll even want to pay for the amazing panoramas that these venues have to offer.
